It is believed that the most sacred Mt Kailash was formed 6 million years ago, when world’s mountains were in their formatting stage. The myth originates in the Hindu epics, which is known as Mt. Meru - home of the Gods. Meru is especially associated with Mt.Kailash.Mt.Kailash (6714mts.) is a pilgrimage site for Hindus, Buddhist, Jains and Bon religionists. It’s a unique destination of most venerated places. Mt Kailash is considered to be the ‘center of universe’ and believed to be the abode of lord Shiva and Parvati. Here, lord Shiva used to practice yogic austerity with his disciples (ganas). God Shiva is the destroyer and transformer in the Hindu epic. To the Buddhist, Mt. Kailash is the home of Shakyamuni Buddha who is thought equally to Shiva in Hindu religion. The Jain religionists called the mountain Astapada, where Risabha Dev, the first of the 24th Tirthankars attained liberation. Followers of Bon-Tibetan, Buddhist called the mountain Sky-Goddess. Mansarover – A divine lake: The great lake Mansarover is situated in the southwest corner of Tibet and in the northwest of Nepal. , Beyond high Himalayas, which borders Nepal and China. Tibetan plateau in itself is unique in its geographic make up with its fauna and flora and mythical setup of ecosystem. The lake is 20 km from Mt.Kailash and is one of the most beautiful and sacred lakes in Asia. It can be circumambulated in four or five days. It is often a gem like cobalt blue color but during storm, it can turn into a churning black sometimes. According to Hindu and Buddhist epics, the four great rivers of the Indian sub-continent, the Indus, Ganga, Sutlej and Brahamaputra actually arise from Mansarover. In reality, only the Sutlej originates from the lake. Mansarover has been circumambulated by the Indian pilgrims at least since being extolled in the sacred Sanskrit literature called the Puranas around 1700 years ago. Legends has that the mother of Buddha, Mayadevi was bathe at Mansarovar by Gods before giving birth to her son.
